    • Epiphyllum guatemalense 'Monstruosa' Care Guide

      Light:

    • Prefers bright, indirect light.
    • Can tolerate some morning or late afternoon sun but avoid harsh midday rays, which may scorch the leaves.
    • If growing indoors, place near an east- or west-facing window with filtered light.
    • Watering:

    • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
    • Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings.
    • Use rainwater or distilled water if possible, as it is sensitive to hard water.
    • Humidity & Temperature:

    • Thrives in moderate to high humidity (40–60%).
    • Ideal temperatures range from 15–27°C.
    • Protect from frost below 10°C , as it is not cold-hardy.
    • Soil & Potting:

    • Use a well-draining, airy mix, such as a combination of orchid bark, perlite, and cactus soil.
    • A shallow pot with drainage holes is ideal to prevent waterlogging.
    • Feeding:

    • Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (diluted to half strength) every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer.
    • Reduce feeding in autumn and stop during winter dormancy.
    • Growth & Pruning:

    • This variety has unique, curly stems that can grow long and trail beautifully.
    • Prune only to remove dead or damaged stems.
    • Propagation:

    • Easily propagated by stem cuttings. Let cuttings dry for a day before planting in slightly moist soil.
    • Common Issues:

    • Wrinkled or limp stems → Underwatering. Increase watering slightly.
    • Yellowing stems → Overwatering or poor drainage. Let soil dry out more between waterings.
    • Lack of blooms → Needs more bright light or a slight temperature drop at night to encourage flowering.
    • Flowering:

    • Produces stunning white, night-blooming flowers with a sweet fragrance.
    • Blooms in late spring or summer, often only lasting one night.
